We will have some sporadic studio hours in January and February as we move to our new portrait studio! It is 6000 square feet and is just a block north of our current space and will give us room to continue growing!

We are humbled and thankful for so many awesome clients this year. Thanks for being part of our growth spurt in doubling our studio staff, bathroom renovation, first full year of high school seniors, and more amazing weddings! Below are some of our favorite images from 2010.

We are also honored to be named Twin Cities Photographers Network 2010 Photographer of the Year. This award was from judges and our awesome photography peers. We had the highest total point score in 5 images entered into competition. I say "we" because Josh lit all of the competition images and our editors (Jenna, Josh) and album designer (Allie) are fantastic!

We have been so busy with family sessions lately that I haven't blogged much but this one was unique...

These guys are dear friends of ours and they had the awesome idea for their 10th anniversary to go to the church where they were married and have some family images captured. There was one hitch (pun intended) - the front steps were being re-done and there was a crew of guys working there. We will be retouching these photos but I thought it would be funny to post the images with the saws and dude in the background - see if you can find him! -Judd

Engagement Season!

Here are two of our recent on-location engagement sessions: Riley and Megan at Pine Tree Apple Orchard (which was chaos on an awesome day) and it was hot enough that we really sweated - all of us. The wind blowing in Megan's hair was me fanning her while Josh and Maureen were shooting - this session was during one of our pro workshops.

And Ryan and Jill with "Beauty and the Beast" shot - sorry Ryan, you are the beast... not much of an option. :)

So we have had some "rain" a.k.a. toilet overflow from the bar upstairs 3 times over the last 4 days. So, we are re-ordering about 15 damaged orders today and will be getting new backdrops, desks, chairs, printer, furniture, and just a bunch of other stuff as well soon. It's not what happens in life, it's how you respond to it right?

Autumn in Stillwater...

Being a wedding and portrait photographer in Stillwater, MN is pretty close to an ideal "job". We've been doing so many family and high school senior sessions lately, it was a bit hard to pick up the camera to shoot something different. but it is also good for us. :)

I just knew that I had to capture some of this color explosion that was happening, so I hopped on the motorcycle at sunrise and this is what happened - check out the slideshow. Many of these images will be available for the first time at our gallery show Thursday, Oct 14 from 6-9. Wine and snacks provided!

I can't believe my crazy mind made these black and whites when I was shooting peak fall colors, but I kind of like that it makes your brain engage and fill in the colors - kind of like reading a book instead of seeing the movie. Know what I mean? -Judd

Steve and Beth had a first meeting at the Tailgate cafe at the hostess stand so we "re-enacted" that for their first look at each other. Check out the bird flying out of the pickup in the video! If you could order a day for a wedding, this would be it: sunny, a crisp breeze with no clouds, bright blue sky, and almost peak autumn colors.

I had never been down to the Chart House before, but that is a cool spot down in Lakeville for an intimate wedding: gardens, gazebo, lakefront, cattails, firepit, and high booth barstools. Father of the bride, Bruce, constructed this elaborate flower girl sled and is pictured below giving her a "shove off" down the aisle.

My lowlight of the day (and year?) was stepping in some dog, uh, stuff, around the church grounds. I might need to retire those shoes...
There was some great energy at the reception; check out the video to see some of Steve's moves. Congrats you guys and thanks for the awesome time (and steak)! -Judd & Chad

Thanks for a fun time Josh and Nicole. A day destined for cold and possible rain turned out to be one of the most beautiful fall days imaginable. The leaves were falling in gold and red. After the ceremony we all went to Long Lake Regional park and jumped on the railroad tracks, luckily there were no trains running at the time. Aron road the bus and captured some of the fun on the way to the Park and the Mermaid. Probably one of the most interesting images from the day was a large group shot of the wedding party. One take, leaves falling and everyone smiling. Can't do that in the summer! At the reception everyone but the ushers were well behaved during the grand march, although I have to give them a little respect, it takes a lot of strength and stamina to leapfrog across a banquet hall! Oh, and the candy bar was awesome too!

Congratulations Josh and Nicole, it was a pleasure working with you!

Caramel Apple Cake. I almost want to stop the blog post there, it was such awesome cake. some day I would love to have a "cake-off" between Jason and Tara's Red Velvet Cake (August 7 post) and Justin and Marit's Caramel Apple Cake. Caramel Apple edge on uniqueness, Red Velvet edge on taste. We might have to arrange that...

This was a magnificent day September day with no wind, blue skies, and just the right amount of sun. We got some really cool images both at the Graves 601 and down on the docks on Lake Minnetonka. The owner of Sunsets happened to have his yacht out so the wedding party got up on it - great stuff. I love the reflection image of Justin and Marit in the water. We had ducks, trains, and jsut all sorts of eye candy. It was fun to get there early to get some extra getting ready footage including the guys raiding the fridge - hopefully they didn't have to pay for the "kit" they pulled out of the holder in there...

Finally a gorgeous day! What a nice break from a hot and rainy summer. I was nursing a sore throat throughout the day but Michael and Rachel made it all go away. I wrote that just because it rhymed, but I did have a sore throat.

Rachel had a beautiful haute couture dress that we broke a hook on due to a "lift" shot in downtown Minneapolis. I proceeded to try to sew it back together on the limo complete with safety pin, but one of the bridesmaids did a little better job later - good thing Amanda had that sewing kit!

Two great venues - the historic Wesley Church and Jax Cafe in downtown Minneapolis. I thought the carpet in the bride's room at the church stunk but it was actually just the veggie tray (the brocolli specifically).

There was also this cool photo wall at the reception that made for some fun images during the reception. We created some of my favorite images of the year outside Wesley and at the Guthrie with some full sun behind. Rachel and Michael are just an amazing couple that smiled pretty much the whole day - not bad for a girl who said "she'd never get married." These guys are off to Seattle and San Francisco for their honeymoon - don't forget Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory! -Judd and Joe (video will be coming later)

The toasts are my favorite part of weddings because they are so unscripted and heartfelt. Cathy and Paul are amazingly articulate, well-spoken, and funny. Paul talked about Justin's humility, and I was thinking about how both Justin and Melody have the same uncanny and perfect blend of confidence and humility.

I also love family farm receptions - they are so personal and it's fun looking around at all the details that required countless hours of preparation: sod lines cut around the tress with perfect mounds of mulch, new wax on the hayloft dance floor, sheer fabric strings of lights in the animal stalls, underlighting in the seemingly cloned trees lining the driveway, homemade signs for parking, and crazy animals like the growling Scottish Highlander cow and spontaneously sprinting shetland pony. Nice job Syd and crew!

We have been lucky enough to capture images of Melody 4 times now. The first time was when we just captured a single image of her in a dress that her mom wanted her to wear for the wedding, and Melody presented it to her during her battle with cancer. The whole wedding day, it seemed like we were almost working with models at a staged wedding because we felt so comfortable shooting with each other in a very short timeframe and because, well, Justin and Melody are really beautiful people (inside and out). Except as Cathy and Paul pointed out in the toasts that Melody is a slob and Justin loves hair product. Humility! Awesome.

Some of my favorite images are below and they don't need much description, other than the cool barn spider and Justin and his pipe (we thought it would be funny since he is a philosophy professor.) We shot a little video during the day and we'll try to post that as well at a later date. -Judd, Josh, Joe, Jenna, and Melissa

It has been a big few months here for weddings for us which are dominating the blog!

Our portrait sessions have risen from 53 in 2009 to an anticipated 200 by the end of 2010, so we are again going to limit our weddings to in 2011 to 20-25 max. Bookings and inquiries are really increasing this month. If you are interested in us covering your 2011 wedding, let us know ASAP!

This was the first time I've had to change shirts at a wedding - Arron said his phone said 105 degree forecast this morning. I thought the church was a little stagnant, but when we got to rice park, our nifty black outfits turned into crock pots. These guys get the "Best Sports in the Worst Heat - Wedding Party Category" Award. Amy and Arron and the whole wedding party were awesome and kept their eyes closed until we counted, etc, etc, very patiently in the heat. St. Agnes was just a beautiful venue for a ceremony, and the weather cooled off a bit for some awesome images at Dellwood Hills Country Club. Joe cracked the blog with a top 10 shot as a second shooter! The cool yellow image on the course...

So fun to see some of our first wedding clients from back around 2004 again with their beautiful growing families: Ty and Veronica, and Anthony and Caroline! So much fun to reconnect with the Hilpisch clan and meet Arron's family - two amazing families came together today and it was quite the party near the end when we finally left.

Some of my favorite images are here: the birds at Rice Park, the crazy color in the bubbles, Amy and Arron in the church doorway, the hard edge of the church architecture and Amy and Arron's shadow on the side of the church, and those big weeping willows at Dellwood. that "bling" on Amy's ring was from the sun, I swear I just made it black and white! Straight out of camera! What a fantastic day; it was fun for Josh, Joe, and I to all be on the same wedding which is rare but we did HD fusion video for Amy and Arron, and that highlight video will be posted here in a few weeks when it's ready. Never underestimate the power of a Friday wedding!!! We had a blast with Kate and Chris this last Friday when they tied the knot at Trellis here in Stillwater. The gardens were beautiful, a fitting location for such a wonderful occasion. The Ladies got up on one of the largest tables I have ever seen. When we went for a drive in the Trolly we made a quick stop at the courthouse for some pictures, but apparently there was another wedding under way and we were politely asked to vacate the premises. Kate and Chris made Joe and I feel right at home as we were never more than 2 miles or so from the studio!

At the reception we went for a short walk around the Grand banquet hall and we found some interesting, almost european scenes. The air conditioning felt so good after that walk! We were there until 11pm, enough time to enjoy the party. Thanks Kate and Chris for such an amazing day!

Where to begin? From an awesome bridal party to snapping turtles and a Michael Jackson mix tape, I would have to say we did a lot! Greg and Amber were so much fun to shoot with and picked out a great place to take some fun group shots. Working our way over to a cute little bridge in the park, we discovered that the recent rain had turned the land into an almost marsh land and we were forced to choose another location. Don't worry, Amber's shoes did not get wet, she took them off.
At that same park we ran into the biggest snapping turtle we've ever seen. It looked like something out of the Jurassic period, and though it seemed to lumber, it could really move when it wanted to.
The reception was great! Good choice on the buffet Greg and Amber (thumbs up!) They had some of the best chocolate cake that has ever been conceived, and a candy bar with gummy worms! The DJ wore an interesting hat, but knew how to get the party moving.
Thanks Amber and Greg, we all had a wonderful time!

What a crazy day! Northern Illinois was more picturesque than I imagined with rolling green hills dotted with farmland, super tall corn, and all kinds of cool old barns. We got caught in a heavy rainstorm but made the best of it by getting an "American Gothic" image just before the deluge. A short stop at Sharky's bar yielded some cool images with old signs, the band stage, and Paul and Emilie catching the raindrops on their tongues. When the rain finally let up a bit, we piggy-backed Emilie into "no trespassing" territory for the images that will probably be hanging on their walls soon. Both Paul and Emilie have HUGE families - check them out, I'm part of one. :)

Paul and Emilie are such a fun-loving/adventurous couple that I had to censor some of the images - you guys will get to see them on the proofing site. :) I love the "bride, mop bucket, beer" shot, Tom carrying Emilie to the rusty car, and the shine of rain on the wedding party - what troopers! The Bridesmaids went through the cattle catchers... yikes! What a great weekend! -Judd

Jason + Tara = married 08.07.10 (Bethlehem Lutheran and International Market Square)

Well, well I think I'm going to start handing out awards again: Best Wedding Cake Ever - somebody comment with who made it. Red velvet cream cheese filled slice of heaven with a perfect touch of light frosting. That was a run-on sentence but I don't care; I told Josh that I could have died a happy man after sneaking a second slice of that cake from the waiter's plate at International Market Square.

Two incredibly delightful families of CPAs and teachers loaded this wedding. I think it was Jason's dad who stood up and toasted at least 20 teachers in the crowd saying "these people often don't get the recognition they deserve; dedicating their lives to educating young people." I concur. As a former math teacher, I know the energy these folks (including Tara) put forth. Jason proposed to her in her classroom early one morning. Awesome - were you giddy all day, Tara? :)

Dave had a funny toast to Jason with "You had me at CPA." Hilarious. Some of my favorite images are below: the cake I mentioned, awesome graffiti wall we stumbled upon, the "heel click" first-of-its-kind image that I've taken, and the "levitate" shot the guys did on THE FIRST TRY. Also some cool silhouette stuff in there, shot of the 36 passenger limo (complete with bathroom), and some really cool sun rays coming down outside Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.

Thanks to Elsa's idea, the bridesmaids made headbands out of their bows that were supposed to go on the dresses; they were a little gaudy on the dresses apparently. -judd, Josh, and Lee

Liz - Senior Pictures in Stillwater

Liz is this joyful, croc-loving spitfire from Eastridge that is one of our studio's high school senior ambassadors this year! We got some cool cave images and really cool lighting by the waterfall/brown mystery drainage pipe. During our 3-hour, onlocation elite session, I'm glad to have found my croc soulmate! Or is it solemate?

Alex & Alyssa: High School Senior Portraits - Elite Photography Sessions near Stillwater

We always try to blog our 3 hour Elite senior portrait sessions (especially on location) and Alex and Alyssa proved to have some awesome visions for their senior portraits. Josh and I hopped on our motorcycles and cruised to a farm for Alex and Victorian House for Alyssa. It was so refreshing creatively for us to step into new locations we hadn't seen and capture these images for these young women full of personality. These images were so fun to edit, it is now 1:30am and I need to leave the studio! The people coming out of the bar upstairs are giving me weird looks... :) -Judd

Alex / Farm shoot session: FFA, Rachel and Nicole there to help close the cow pens, us shooting until the cows came over, me falling though the floor in the barn, little Henry tagging along, Josh testing fantastic light coming through the barn, and a shot with 86-year-old Nana on the front porch. What an awesome night, until Josh had his gloves slip off his motorcycle and we had to backtrack. :)

Alyssa / Victoria / Gothic / Edgy session: Nikki and Deb (the dynamic duo) there to assist, amazingly cool architecture, harsh shadows, video lights, and Alyssa with an amazingly cool and creative vision for her senior portraits. Hopping in the fountain "Friends" style with Nikki was fun at the end!

Joe + Amber: 07.17.2010 (Church of St. Michael and Millennium Hotel Minneapolis)

Two beautiful venues for today's wedding of Joe and Amber. Amber did hair & makeup for our bridal fashion session a couple months ago, so it was fun to turn the camera on her! We've shot a couple hundred weddings now and think we've seen it all but we had THREE "firsts" with Amber and Joe: 1. Limo breakdown and subsequent jump start (video to come later), 2. Tornado Watch sent all guests to the basement of the Millennium hotel (we had a great view of the storm from the domed ceiling of the hotel! and 3. Groom Joe wiping out on the dance floor for both dollar dance and garter toss. :) I got to polka with Amber as well, not sure if that was a first...

The Church of St. Michael is a beautiful historic church in Stillwater, and the priest actually married Amber's parents, Amy and Steve. Usually during the message of the officiant I usually take a little break, charge batteries, kick my shoes off or something but something somewhat magical happened Saturday. Somebody comment with the guy's name - it was a guest preacher and he told this story about "true love" that had everyone on the edge of their seats:

(Abridged version) He was sitting in a park enjoying the summer day when along came an elderly man pushing his wife in a wheelchair. She was smiling as they passed by him on the bench. The man pushed his wife up very near to the swings, helped her out of the chair and gently onto the swing. When he gave her a gentle push her smile lit up even brighter. Then the man said to his wife, "Now get ready for the run-under!" and proceeded to 'run' along side the swing and push her even higher; both of them beaming. You could hear a pin drop in the church... what an amazing storyteller. He told Joe to always give Amber the "run-under." Awesome.

Remember when you were a kid on the swings and you started getting "in sync" with the person next to you and you called it "married" to that person? Funny but it's really true that as a couple you need to be on the same page otherwise it's pretty crazy trying to communicate, and I think we all can relate to that! Joe and Amber have been dating since 7th grade so they are pretty in sync. The guests were peppered with our portrait clients and models so we ended up staying late until the tornados passed. :) I'll post their video soon but here are some of our favorite images to start below. -Judd and Joe

Jon and Lisa were great! We had such a fun time. The weather was erratic to say the least, but we got to see some sun, some torrential rain and later a tornado warning. Jon has a friend that he brought to the wedding, but not a friend in the usual sense; Jon has a glass bunny. When asked about the bunny I discovered it used to be a conversation starter/ pick up line, and now he is a companion to special events - too funny, bunny.
Right before the ceremony the sky opened up and let loose its fury. Usually this is not a problem, but Jon and Lisa were having an outdoor wedding. Luckily it stopped long enough for the bridal party and several others to towel off the chairs.
The reception was fun too, and it got even better when the storms started up again and about 15 minutes after a tornado warning we lost power to the hotel.
Some people might have been bummed out about the weather, but not Jon and Lisa. In fact, they put their rings together and became...the stupendous married duo! Thanks Jon and Lisa, you guys were a pleasure to work with!

My oh my what a day!! Things were off to a great start with the weather cooperating (almost) the entire day, which allowed for some great sky shots! This day featured a little bit of everything from being in a beautifully remodeled church (Saint Peters, North Saint Paul), hanging in the city (Saint Paul), to bars with gnomes everywhere (The Happy Gnome), to walking on stairs that played music when you stepped on them (Science Museum). The most memorable part of the day had to be when TJ (one of the groomsmen) was sitting at a table with people he had never met before at the Happy Gnome just shooting the breeze like he had known them the whole time and then proceeded to take a shot with them! Haha, thanks to Julie and Kevin for being such a great and outgoing couple to take pictures of, Chad and myself definitely felt like it was a sign of thing to come for those two!

Peter + Kathryn = 06.26.2010 (Madison, WI)

Peter and Kathryn's Wedding was amazing for many reasons. First, they have an amazing attention to detail and could totally be laid back and enjoy their wedding day as well. Kathyn has these amazing electric blue eyes - I had to grab a close up while we were in the limo. The capital in Madison is a very interesting place to capture images - I love going to spots where I haven't shot before. It was a challenge to find some great spots that had enough shade in them. Andrea the amazing second shooter from Marmalade Skies Photography (and one of Peter's good friends) helped find some cool local spots down by the water. Peter and Kathryn received a polite golf clap from the people hanging out on a hot summer's day.

Some of my favorite shots are below: the group of "Internationals" from Australia & The Netherlands, Kathryn getting a little "backside," and little Claira grabbing Paul's "beard."

Special thanks to Ben and Eric for once again manning the video cameras. This was a family wedding and someone (Peter and Kathryn?) had the amazing foresight to put our family in a room that was about 40 feet from the dance floor. So, our three little boys could hit the sack while Martha and I, well, kept partying since it was our 11th anniversary!

Terry and Jodie are a great couple and we had an awesome time capturing their wedding day! We took a stroll down to the bluffs and captured some great images with the boats in the background. After escaping the humidity, the ceremony was beautiful and before you knew it, it was official! Beautiful Afton Alps was the backdrop for a fun reception. This was Aron's and my first time at the University of Minnesota's Landscape Arboretum. What a beautiful place to hold a wedding and reception; a regular Photographer's creative dreamland. The ceremony was held in a rose garden that just happened to bloom shortly before the wedding day. Wyatt the rambunctious ring bearer was smiling for every shot and as you can see, was very careful to guard his soda from possible thieves. Everyone present gathered for a group image on a hill by the ceremony location, so cool! Kate told me a bit about her camp days with Jake and said that, although it looked a little rough, that her hip checks to Jake and his return kicks were full of love. Kate enacted a situation where she was a demanding wife, but don't worry Jake, I think she was kidding... In the waning daylight we got the bridal party out and into the Uuf Da Palace, I think that image speaks for itself and it's unique appearance.

With all this rain you'd think our lakes would fill back up! Actually it was just kind of a light rain but it lasted almost all day. Doug and Taryn are super laid back and both have great laughs - amazing qualities for a happy life together. Doug really loosened up when we grabbed some images with the bridesmaids. Right Dougy? Taryn, aka "Peanut" and her dad, aka "Pops" had an emotional first sighting - I always love the access we have as photographers to get a front row seat to these events. Pops had this sweet yellow '56 Chevy all decked out with his "newlyweds on board" yellow caution sign. The old el Camino was a sweet ride too... love the black and white of it below.

We stopped for a few shots in White Bear at the gazebos (see the rain?) and then found this really cool textured wall in an alley nearby. At the end of the night Bre and Megan modeled the final shot for Doug and Taryn and the evening came to an end. Have fun up north and the "Back to the 50's" weekend you two! -Judd and Jessi

Jake and Ana's wedding day was perfect. We had sunshine all day and a ton of fun. I see why Jake and Ana chose their priest to do the wedding. I don't think I have laughed that much in church before, and he even showed up later for a drink and a kiss : ) Jake's brother and best man got a few laughs and a few tears as he gave his toast. Senior Portraits in Stillwater!

Not a day goes by when we're thankful that we have the opportunity to take senior pictures in Stillwater. There are tons of little nook and crannies loaded with texture and character, and a variety of spaces with enough sun and shade to capture a wide variety of looks that our high school seniors love. The seniors that come in are all spunky and amazing and willing to just have fun and create with us - which is awesome.

We've only opened our "wedding specialist" fine art studio to high school seniors for just over year now, so this is going to be a busy and exciting 2nd summer! I was feeling a little flat creatively Saturday since we've had so many portrait sessions the last two weeks. Traffic was jammed in Stillwater due to construction. Jason and Tara called stuck in traffic so we just went north of Stillwater to photograph their engagement portraits. Mobile Post: This is our first live post while shooting a wedding! We're having a blast shooting Nick and Jessie's big day. We just climbed a truck to get a better perspective on the Minnehaha Falls. Awesome!

Nick and Jessie had some exciting moments throughout their wedding day! For the first time ever, I climbed onto a truck to get a better perspective on the bridal party. We had to exploit the beautiful Minnehaha Falls for the shot! Later in the day, we went to Joe Sensor's and witnessed the 2010 Kentucky Derby drama while Nick (loudly) informed us of the countdown to get back on the bus. From there, we headed to Royal Cliff where Nick and Jessie fooled hundreds of people with their first dance. Nick demanded a new song from the DJ and they began the routine from there, classic! After a visit from the TC the bear, the dancing went late into the night. Thanks to all for a great day and it was awesome to see many of you whom I haven't seen in a long time! Cheers to Nick and Jessie :)

Model Session

The vacuum cleaner came out this morning to clean up some of the sprinkles that fell from one of our iced models yesterday during the fashion session of a lifetime! Soon to be wed Amber Ayers brought in 4 incredible models to show off their stuff. Dominique, Jes, Ruth and C(K)aitli(y)n (seems we fail at name spelling) gave us a creative and candy filled adventure. We went outside for some pics in front of the Eiffel Tower, oops! I mean the Stillwater bridge and also tested out some of our new backdrops. Jes, we hope all the candy washed out, but if it didn't at least you wont have to go far for a sweet treat. Two words: in-credible!

Nikki & Higher Power Yoga

Anamarie HD fusion Senior Session & BFF shoot

The weather was less than perfect for Anamarie, but she went out and toughed the rain and wind for some great shots! More than one of us almost went "swimming with the fishes" as Judd put it. We also caught a glimse of a bald eagle over the river! Thanks Anamarie for some fun in the rain. On another day with some more sun, Anamarie was joined by her friend Emily and we got some fun images of them together.

MN Board of Medical Practice Votes to Abstain from Investigating Lyme Doctors

We did a little video for my good friend Michelle who was set back for about a year with Lyme disease. The video helped her spread her amazing message on Youtube. About 9000 hits later, she has spoken to the MN House and championed this breakthrough for the treatment of Lyme disease in MN. The Minnesota Board of Medical Practice (MBMP) voted 8-6 to adopt a moratorium on investigating physicians who treat chronic Lyme with long-term antibiotics. Stating that the science for diagnosis and treatment of chronic Lyme is unsettled, the Board agreed to a 5-year period in which to allow science to answer unresolved questions.

The resolution was posted on the MBMP website on Friday and the Board will further “educate its staff, medical coordinators, and members regarding this voluntary action.”

The effort to protect physicians who treat Lyme disease with long-term antibiotics was spearheaded by the Minnesota Lyme Action Support Group (MLASG) and Dr. Elizabeth Maloney. Minnesota state senators John Marty and Ray Vandeveer, and state representatives John Ward and Bob Dettmer took up the cause, introducing legislation at the start of the 2010 legislative session which would have limited the medical board’s authority to investigate complaints related to the treatment of Lyme disease. As the bills advanced, behind the scenes negotiations produced an agreement with the MBMP which formed the basis of the MBMP’s resolution; this agreement allowed the legislation to be tabled.

Studies have shown that the bacterial agent of Lyme disease can survive the one-month treatment regimen commonly recommended for the treatment of the infection. Patients with chronic Lyme have difficulty finding doctors who will treat the infection more aggressively, as many physicians fear being investigated by the MBMP should they treat long-term. Doctors in other states have faced investigations; some have had their license revoked. With few doctors willing to take on Lyme patients, many have had to travel out of state for appropriate medical care.

With the MBMP resolution in place, doctors and patients who decide that long-term antibiotic therapy is appropriate can now choose this course of action without fear of reprisal. In 2008, Minnesota ranked 8th in the nation, with 1,282 reported cases of Lyme disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates this number is 10 times greater, due to the under-reporting of known cases.

MLASG believes this resolution is the first step to increasing the number of Minnesota physicians willing to become better-educated in treating the most common vector-borne disease in the country. MLASG promotes educational activities for the public and health-care professionals about Lyme disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Thanks to Randy from Art Guild Gallery we now have a big beautiful Judd Sather and Studio J Sign up at the back entrance and on the doors of our building. Judd was pretty excited to get them displayed before the St. Croix River flooded Stillwater. Check out that water level just below the lift bridge!

Talk about out of the box! Sean and Katie had their wedding in a tropical Jungle right here in Minnesota. We had a blast, got a little goofy and I almost went for a swim with the coy fish! When we left the jungle for the setting sun outside, we enjoyed 65 degree weather. Perfect day, and an awesome crew. Thanks Sean and Kaite!

Justin + Melody: Engagement Session in Stillwater

Justin and Melody were so great yesterday! It was a bit chilly and Melody's nose was getting a little red toward the end, but the green dress kind of draws the eye away from her Rudolph nose. Pretty sure we won't have another couple anytime soon that can do the "ride on the shoulders without getting muddy shoes on tweed jacket" move anytime soon. It is fun to spend a little extra time and get to know a couple -- like how unsettled Justin, the professor, was after he thought he left his AFLAC bag back by the train. Did you guys find it? Wouldn't want to lose that... I'm pretty excited about these images, plus my family is out of town so here I am at the studio at 8am on a Sunday! Crazy, but fun editing images like these! -Judd and Josh

Little Aasta came in for 3-month images this week - I love the scarf shot - Sara was such a trooper fashioning a sling out of the scarf. She was kind of like MacGyver without the duct tape, of course.
Christopher and Chase are perhaps the two smiley-est kids we have ever captured. With "Gap Kids" good looks and teeth about to fall out, we got these fun images on a crisp March day! Papa Mitch had amazing articulation of Steve The Chicken's vocal cords too - wish I could have had that on video. :)

I kind of like the 2-20-20-10 ring to it - Nichole did you do that on purpose? :)

What an amazing day! Winter seems to be trying to end so we got some outside time. Chris and Nichole are two of the most fun-loving, creative people so they were good for tons of smiles and some "fashiony" poses. Funny story is that I was going to hang the dress from a fire sprinkler when lighting specialist Josh educated all of us... Next time you look at a fire sprinkler, look for that the tiny red glass tube; if you break that then 50 gallons per minute of rusty water comes out of that sprinkler head. I almost broke that tube; it would have emptied 50 gallons of water right on Nikki's dress - good thing that didn't happen...

Some of my favorite images below: Sis Trish and the kissing belly shot (she's due in a month!), the timepieces, the blowing veil, the escaltor ride, the skyline, the spinning fan at the end of the night, and my FAVORITE ring shot we have taken - I credit Joe on the location find.

For dinner, the fish at the Metropolitan (D'Amico Catering) tasted like candy - I even ate it before my steak and I hate fish. They also had mini-burgers at the end of the night with little ketchup bottles labeled "Berkowitz Private Stock." Nikki's dad Thom said it more than once that Nikki was "off his ledger and onto Chris's" - including those cute little ketchup bottles. We have two in the studio. Great to see referral couple Ryan and Mollie again - even though I tweaked my knee dancing to Billie Jean with them.

We're looking for a studio manager intern for March-May, 10-20 hours per week to help handle recent growth. Ideally a highly motivated, organized, young professional / student to work with brides and high school senior girls and run the office. Crazy computer skills and awesome personality a plus. 2. Time slots are 4:00, 4:40, and 5:20 on Mondays ONLY until March 29.
3. Show up at your time and text 90999 to give your $10 session fee to Haiti relief
4. Indoor session will be 15 minutes and one parent needs to be in the image with kids – we’ll capture about 20 images
5. We’ll pick out your favorite image (20 minutes) and upload it to the International Model contest site
6. Your friends and family can vote ($1 each @ http://www.sandypucmodels.com) for “World’s Cutest Family” and the winner receives a NEW CAR
7. $1 for each vote goes to the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Foundation
8. Printed images start at $44 for and are 50% off with investments in collections six professionally mounted prints. Many other fine art options are available.
9. “Kids Eat Free” at the Cherry Bowl restaurant upstairs from the studio on Mondays, so make an evening of it!

I love winter engagement sessions! There's more creativity and new spots to shoo. We lost a heel, had a snowball fight, and made the first snow angels on the river (as far as I could tell!) :)

Melody's Gift

We were honored to capture these images yesterday of Melody -- here's her story:

Melody's sister and two cousins have all chosen their wedding dresses at Our Shop in downtown Stillwater. The beautiful gown she is wearing in these images was her mom's favorite, and the second place dress. Take special note of the beautiful locket she was wearing -- a family heirloom passed down to her. Melody's mom is very ill with cancer and loves this dress that was not chosen, so Melody and Carol at Our Shop had an idea: They asked us to come and make a portrait of Melody in the dress to give as a gift to her mom, and we were honored to do so! I wish we could be there when Melody presents the image to her mother. Thanks Melody and Carol for a wonderful idea! -Judd and Josh

Last August 20, Amanda and Mike were in town from South Carolina for their engagement session but their photographer unfortunately fell through. They looked us up on the 20th, we met and booked their wedding and scheduled their engagement session the next day before Ryan and Kami's wedding in Stillwater. Today the weather is a little different but we're going to try out some fun locations and I'm bringing my Jimmy Kleinsasser jersey!

The weather was so bad today we couldn't get any outside shots even though Amanda had an elegant winter ensemble. Our plan B location was amazing and challenging, and a spot we normally wouldn't have even tried had the weather not been so bad. Both Mike's and Amanda's families were amazing and hospitable - Mike's dad's "southern ways" toast was perhaps my favorite EVER. I took a little video and will post it with the slideshow which should be ready Wednesday.

Some favorite images below, and many more on facebook (link above). Hard to really describe these images that come out of my brain and the edit so I'll let you just look. Some of my favorite moments were when Lee ripped on Amanda's NHS friends for all the trouble they caused in 8th grade during her speech, Mike showing off his All Star's, watching Mike shaking his head when "Chicken Fried" came over the playlist, almost capturing Jana's shaving cut on her ankle, Amanda's eyelashes, and making those amazing "end of the night" images. The Vikings shot would have been way better has the game turned out differently, but the Vikes have rice and Brinkley - Carolina alums. Have a great trip back to South Carolina Mike and Amanda!
